Fire at Bangkok Nightclub Santika
At least 59 people have been killed in a fire at a New Year's party in a nightclub in the Thai capital Bangkok. According to the Bangkok Post one or more Dutch nationals are among the dead, but the Dutch embassy is unable to confirm this. Two hundred and twenty-three people were injured in the blaze. It is thought the fire may have been caused by fireworks. A curtain close to the ceiling is believed to have caught fire. The Santika nightclub is in an area popular with tourists.
